The purpose of this course is to provide a fundamental understanding of alcohol
use and abuse. After completing your selected learning activity, click on the
Exam Listing link and take the Alcohol 101B test. You must successfully pass the
Alcohol 101 test before receiving CME credit for this or any other of the learning
activities. You will receive 1 CME credit for successful completion of this course
Objectives:
Upon completion of this activity, physicians will be able to:
1.Identify characteristics of alcohol abuse and dependence and demonstrate knowledge
of screening instruments, brief intervention and treatment.
2.Identify harmful and beneficial effects of alcohol consumption
3.Recognize core alcohol competency items (standard drink, FAS, metabolism,
etc.)

Needs Assessment:
This activity will address the ongoing alcohol competency educational needs
of practicing physicians. The material will include core competencies as well
as knowledge, assessment and treatment based competencies. Topics include alcohol
treatment, inherited alcoholism, end stage alcoholism, poly substance abuse.
Evaluation:
Successful completion of the posttest is required
